Riding the Waves: Best Surf Spots Near Aglou and Tiznit

While destinations like Taghazout and Essaouira are well-known on the global surfing map, the southern coastline near Aglou Beach and Tiznit remains one of Morocco's best-kept secrets. Here, you get the same world-class Atlantic swells without the massive crowds.
Aglou Plage: The Local Break
Just steps away from Kasbah Ifoulki, the vast stretch of Aglou Plage offers excellent and consistent beach breaks. The waves here cater to various skill levels depending on the day's swell. Because it’s relatively undiscovered, you’ll often find yourself sharing the water with only a handful of locals. The sandy bottom makes it a forgiving spot for those looking to improve their skills.
Mirleft: A Surfer's Haven
Driving south from Aglou towards Sidi Ifni, you'll encounter the laid-back town of Mirleft. This area is famous among surf enthusiasts for its dramatic cliffs and hidden coves that produce fantastic point and reef breaks. Spots like Plage Imin Turga provide powerful waves that are incredibly fun to carve.
Sidi Ifni & Legzira
Further south, the breaks around Sidi Ifni and Legzira beach provide heavier, hollower waves suited for more experienced riders. The stunning backdrop of the red rock arches at Legzira makes catching a wave here a truly unforgettable, photogenic experience.
Surfing Season and Conditions
The prime surf season in southern Morocco runs from October through April, when the majestic North Atlantic winter storms send long-period swells down the coast. However, the summer months also offer fun, smaller waves that are perfect for beginners. The water is refreshing, usually requiring a 3/2mm wetsuit in the winter and spring.
Whether you're bringing your own board or looking to rent locally, our team at Kasbah Ifoulki is happy to advise you on the current conditions and help arrange transport to the best breaks of the day!
